Much like Locke’s, Bethany has strong ties to the community. She was born and raised in Waterloo. She attended Waterloo schools, the University of Northern Iowa, and Upper Iowa University, ultimately receiving a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
Since March 2021, she has served as director of catering and gatherings at Locke Funeral Services. In this role, she takes Locke’s commitment to provide unmatched service to the Cedar Valley community.
“We offer a unique value to the community,” Bethany said. “Our Tower Park location is designed so families can host their visitation, funeral service, appetizers, and meals or a bar all in one facility. It means that families can stay together throughout the service.”
Outside of work, Bethany spends her time with friends and family, often catching up on a good book or movie, or doing some painting or baking. She has a husband of 14 years and two stepchildren, who both currently serve in the U.S. Army. You might spot her out with the two family dogs, Hank and Helo. But you’ll never see her in a Chrysler PT Cruiser (ask her about why she dislikes them sometime).
Wherever you find Bethany, however, family is always top of mind.
“My goal is to make planning easy and stress-free for the families we serve,” Bethany said. “Families are often exhausted, emotionally drained, or overwhelmed when they come to see us. I, along with the rest of the team at Locke’s, am here to support them during their time of need.”
To help her provide that level of service to families, Bethany relies on a concept that comes up time and time again at Locke’s: compassion.
“It really comes down to compassion and empathy,” Bethany said. “It’s hard not to feel the emotion that families are going through. I feel for them, and I want to help in whatever way I can.”
She is quick to note, though, that she is not alone in this. Locke’s has built a reputation in the community for providing fair, honest, and compassionate service. That’s because it’s part of the very culture at Locke’s.
“The Locke family creates a culture that is centered around their customers,” Bethany said. “They focus their processes, products, and services around the families they serve. And the atmosphere at Locke’s is to help one another, so we can constantly deliver high-quality services and care.”
