Rodger Gale Scroggins

Rodger G. Scroggins, 73, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1951, in Newport, Arkansas, son of Ocie J. and Bonnie J. (Earls) Scroggins. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1970.

Rodger married Angela "Angie" Wright in 1970; they later divorced. He then married Nina A. Murotova on December 10, 2004, in Cedar Rapids. He was a CNC operator for John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a former member of Burton Avenue Baptist Church, Waterloo. He was also a member of UAW Local 838. He enjoyed woodworking and DIY home renovation projects. He also played guitar and banjo. Music was very important to him. He especially liked Motown.

Rodger is survived by his wife, Nina of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Carrie Scroggins of Cedar Rapids, and Nina (Brad) Preston of Stewartstown, PA; five grandchildren, Emma Preston, Carter Scroggins-Gorman, Lydia Preston, Connor Preston, and Mark Murotov; and two step-sons, Sergei Murotov, and Stanislov (Sveta) Murotov, both of Kharkov, Ukraine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Troy Scroggins; and three brothers, David Scroggins, Clinton Scroggins, and Cecil McAlister.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday July 11, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo. Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Locke at Tower Park.
