On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, Phillip “Phil” Karl Paul Kuriger, Sr., 88, completed his journey of life and is now with his wife, an angel in waiting, dancing in heaven.
Throughout his life, Phil held close to his heart his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous exchange students, foster children and others who needed a place to stay.
He considered himself a wealthy man when it came to lifelong friends and neighbors and their friendship meant the world to him. He had numerous friends from John Deere but was happy to retire at the age of 52. He then went on to pursue his true calling as a carpenter.
His first big project with the help of some friends and family members was the large addition to his own house. Then, together with his father Karl as his right-hand man, they constructed numerous porches, garages, and remodeled projects in the metro area.
Phil was also very instrumental in the numerous building projects at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Evansdale, and he is one of the last of the original founding fathers of the church.
Phil is survived by his son, Brad (Katrin) Kuriger of Waterloo; 3 daughters, Vickie (Jim) Bone of Monticello, Tammie (Dean) Fairbanks of Evansdale’ Jeannette (Dennis) Cunningham of Wesley Chapel’ FL; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Wendt of New Hampton; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Lofredo of Ames’ Minetta Jones of Waverly, Carol Kuriger of Evansdale, Ellen Kuriger of Brandon; and brother-in-law, Raymond “Sonny” Scoles of Waterloo.
Greeting Phil in heaven are his beloved wife, Thelma; his very special son, Phil Jr. “Butch” Kuriger; and witty fun-loving daughter, Debbie Turner; his parents, Karl and Racheal; and siblings, Mildred Hansen, Rosemary Jenkins, Margaret Scoles, Raymond Kuriger, Paul Kuriger, Terry Wiley, and Florence Sherbon.
