Monica Rose Izer

Monica Rose Izer, 58, of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 17, 2025, while a patient at MercyOne Des Moines, surrounded by her loving family, and following a very brief illness. She was born on November 2, 1966, in Waterloo, the daughter of Robert Izer and Norma Crosby Izer. Monica married Andrew Russell, and the couple later divorced. She had found the love of her life, Phil Suggs Jr, almost by accident and the couple was excited about their future together. Monica was the manager of Earl May Garden Center in Cedar Falls.

Monica was a very giving, caring, funny person who could walk up to almost anyone and talk with them as if they had been friends forever. She had a very big heart and was delighted in helping others. Monica was very organized and kept her store and her social life active. She enjoyed telling stories and making others laugh. Monica cared deeply for her family and loved spending time with her children and her nieces and nephews. An avid gardener, she also enjoyed crocheting and creating art.

Monica is survived by her significant other, Phil Suggs Jr., of Waterloo; children Joshua Izer and Ryan Russell, both of Spencer, and Sarah Russell of Ankeny; her siblings Robert (Sandy) Izer of Tingley, Teresa (David Warner) of Waterloo, and Michael (Christina) Izer of Cedar Falls; her beloved dogs, Luna and Link; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jerry Crosby and special friend, Phil Suggs, Sr.

Funeral services for Monica will be Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:30 am. at Locke on 4th St., 1519 W 4th St, Waterloo with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo.
