Mary Dell Syhlman

Mary Dell Syhlman, 93, of Waterloo, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

She was born on December 4, 1931, in Rice Lake, WI, daughter of John and Marion (Hansen) Moschkau. Mary Dell graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1950. She married Stanley J. Syhlman on February 26, 1980, in Dike.

Mary Dell worked as an inspector at Chamberlain Manufacturing for 25 years until her retirement. She also worked at John Deere for 5 years. In her retirement, she worked at Walmart as a greeter and cashier for a few years.

She attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in her youth. She was a former member of UAW Local 838. Mary Dell enjoyed crafting and painting, such as making Christmas ornaments, playing scratch off tickets, and cooking and baking. Her favorites were making duchess cream and lasagna. Mary Dell loved her family and enjoyed spending her time with them. She also spent her time traveling the country and returning home to Wisconsin.

Mary Dell is survived by her husband, Stanley Syhlman of Waterloo; daughters, Dalene Ransom of Cedar Falls, Julie Mikkelsen of Raymond, and Joni Green of Waterloo; son, Dana (Lisa) King of Broken Arrow, OK; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Luke, Chris, Holly, Travis, Austin, Zac, Hannah, and Destiny; many great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Anna Mae White, Anna Belle Beck, and Arlene Patava.

Funeral Services: 10:30 am Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
