Mary “Betty” Bonita O’Brien

Mary (Betty) B. O'Brien, 99 of Waterloo, died Friday, August 2, 2024, at Wellsprings Living of Friendship Village. She was born March 3, 1925, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Edward H. and Mildred E. Lamm. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1942. Betty married Harvey J. O'Brien on May 31, 1946, in Maywood, IL. He died March 19, 2010. She worked at Friendship Village for 30 years, retiring as the Administrator in 1994.

She is survived by her daughters: Mary Beth O'Brien (Special Friend Fran Wehrle) of Waterloo, and Kathleen (Scott) O'Brien – Lyon of Clear Lake; son, Michael (Narelle) O'Brien of Clear Lake; and son in law, Gene Galasso of Clear Lake; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; and sisters, Marlys Hughes, and Ann Randall.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Patricia Galasso; two sisters, Jean (Galen) Furneaux and Marjorie Christensen; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Mizenberg; four brothers-in-law, Harlan Hughes, Frank O'Brien, William Randall and Eugene "Red" O'Brien.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. Burial will follow in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00pm Wednesday at Locke at Tower Park (4140 Kimball Ave.)
