Marlys E. Badger, 97, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Deery Suites, Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls. She was born April 14, 1927, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Kyle Edward and Doris Matilda (Hoover) Stoner. Marlys moved with her family to Waterloo in 1935 and ultimately attended West Waterloo High School.
She married Wayne H. Badger on February 8, 1946, at the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Waterloo. Wayne and Marlys were happily married for 71 years. Wayne passed away on March 15, 2017. She was a member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, where she has served as deacon for many years.
In addition to being an avid Square Dancer, Marlys owned and operated "Marlys' Square Dance Apparel" for 8 years. She worked for Drs. Russell Gardner and Updegraff and later retired as a receptionist for Dr. Dexter Wilson in 1987.
Marlys and Wayne enjoyed their cabin on the Wapsi, RV Camping, square dancing, snow-birding in the winter, and leisure travel. She played Bridge, 500, and read books, but most of all, she loved spending time with family.
Marlys is survived by her daughter, Debra (Terry) Sellers of Midland, GA; two grandchildren, Lindsey (Joseph) Coppiano and Benjamin (Rachel) Sellers; a great-grandson, Gavin Thomas Coppiano; nieces and nephews, Kathleen (Steve) Schoepske of Waverly, Alan (Beth) Stoner of Ypsilanti, MI and Ann Stoner, Cedar Falls; and several grand nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne, two brothers, Daryl Stoner and Donald Richard Stoner, in infancy, and her nephew, Kenneth Stoner.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Locke at Tower Park (4140 Kimball Ave. Waterloo, IA 50701) with inurnment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. until service time at Locke at Tower Park.
