Lucile Carrie Betts Friedley, 90, of Waterloo, stepped through Heaven's door at home surrounded by love on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. She was born in Chickasaw County, Iowa on April 10, 1933, the daughter of Louis and Carrie Anderson Betts. Lucile worked as a Certified Respiratory Therapist at Schoitz (and then Covenant) Hospital where she retired in 1989. She married Robert "Bob" P. Friedley on May 5, 1951, and he preceded her in death on August 24, 2022. The couple was blessed with five children.

Lucile was a person who was helpful to everyone. She was extremely intelligent with a quick wit and a sharp tongue. A devout Lutheran, Lucile was strong in her faith. Over the years Bob and Lucile served as foster parents for many children. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles and watching game shows, especially Funny You Should Ask and Wheel of Fortune. For many years, the highlight of Lucile's week was spending every Friday getting her hair done, going shopping, and then going out for pie.

Lucile is survived by her daughters Audrey (David) Plum of Waterloo, Charlotte Clay of Waterloo, and Beckie Tobar of Dunkerton; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren (with one on the way); sisters Mary DeBerard of Oregon and Grace Miskimen of Missouri; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; sons Ron Friedley and Duane Friedley; sons-in-law Russell Clay and Dean Tobar; sisters Myrtle Weigle and Beulah Marsh; and brothers Leonard Betts and Ardale Betts.

A private family burial will take place at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo.
