Lloyd L. Loonan, 98, of Hudson, died Saturday, July 17, 2021 at MercyOne Cedar Falls Medical Center.

He was born July 2, 1923, in Hudson, son of Lloyd J. and Elizabeth Bedford Loonan. Lloyd graduated from Hudson High School in 1942.

He bravely served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945 in the European Theater. Lloyd was in the first wave at Omaha Beach with the Normandy invasion. He married Margaret H. Lloyd farmed for 25 years on the Loonan Stock Farm until the farm sale and moved into Hudson in 1972. He then became an adjuster for Black Hawk Mutual Insurance for 13 years, retiring in March 1985.

Lloyd was proud to have helped the 1942 Hudson High basketball team earn a trip to state. He also played on the Hudson High baseball team. Lloyd later served as the commissioner of the Hudson Little League. He had a kind heart. He lovingly cared for Margaret during her illness and was a willing volunteer in Hudson.

He was a charter member of Community Church of Hudson and Hudson Lion's Club, served as the president, and was a lifetime member of Hudson AMVETS Post #82.
