Leonard Martin Peterson

Leonard M. Peterson, 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Friendship Village-Wellspring of Waterloo, IA.

Leonard was born on July 7, 1946, in Winona, MN, to Martin and Laura (Merritt) Peterson. He graduated from Orange High School in 1965 and went on to earn his degree from United Electronics Institute in Des Moines in 1967. Leonard married Markita L. Elliott on July 16, 1967, in Des Moines. He and Markita spent 35 years living in Ft. Worth, Texas, where he worked for Lockheed Martin, formerly known as General Dynamics, as an electronic test equipment technician. After retiring in 2002, they moved back to Waterloo, where Leonard enjoyed woodworking, handcrafting toys and quilt racks, and reading Science Fiction. He was a member of Bethany Bible Chapel where he faithfully served in many capacities. Leonard deeply loved his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Judith E. Peterson.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Markita of Waterloo; sons, Paul (Ginger) Peterson of Tyler, TX, and Phillip (Regella) Peterson of Liverpool England; four grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Matthew, and Grace; sister, Shirley Jones of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Celebration of Life: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Bethany Bible Chapel, 4507 Rownd St, Cedar Falls, IA. Burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery-Waterloo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Bible Chapel or Friendship Village-Wellspring.
