LaVonne Kerr

LaVonne Kerr, 96, formerly of Hudson, died on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her home in Reinbeck.

LaVonne was born on November 16, 1927, in Voohries, to Charles and Bertha (Mastain) Mumm. She married Thomas R. Kerr on October 15, 1949, in Hudson, and he preceded her in death on December 28, 1995.

LaVonne earned her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College and taught at Lincoln School #5. She spent many years as a farm wife, tending to the home and farm. LaVonne was a longtime member of United Methodist Church in Hudson where she was a member of the choir and enjoyed coordinating meals and luncheons. She was caring and generous in all things to everyone she met.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lori Nelson; son, Joseph Kerr; and brothers, Leonard, Richard, Kenneth, John, and Raymond Mumm.

LaVonne is survived by her grandsons, James (Mandy) Kimpston of Waterloo and Ryan Kerr of Sacramento, CA; great-grandchildren, Thomas, and Lillian Kimpston; sisters, Marlys Keith of Reinbeck, and Charlene (Herb) Bagley of KY; brothers, Wilbur Mumm of Hudson and Gary Mumm OR; and son in law, Scott Nelson of Waterloo, IA.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at United Methodist Church of Hudson, 301 Washington St, Hudson, IA 50643. A Memorial gathering will take place one hour prior.

Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery-Waterloo.
