Kenneth Franklin Lichty, 86, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on June 7, 2024, at the Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa, to Harry and Frances Lichty on March 7, 1938. He attended school in Orange Township south of Waterloo and graduated from there in 1955. Kenny married JoAnn Westcott, May 5, 1956. Four children were born to them and raised on their farm south of Orange Township. Kenny farmed with his dad until they sold the land and animals in 1968 and then worked at John Deere until 1992 when he retired. Kenny enjoyed many activities with JoAnn such as, fishing, raising vegetables and fruits in their gardens, boating with the houseboat and always fishing, snowmobiling with friends, camping at Crane Lake and Florida-with friends from many states, many, many card games of Gin Rummy-Pepper and Carbels, harvesting apples, polishing and packing them for a trip to the store. Kenny stayed busy and always enjoyed a cold beer with family and friends. JoAnn died June 14, 2017, and his life changed at that time.
In more recent years, Kenny worked delivering cars for a local dealership when vehicles needed to be moved from one place to another. He also continued to fish with family at Crane Lake during the summers.
Kenny met a friend from his past in the fall of 2018. Jan Shepard came back into his life following the passing of her husband Glenn. Love was kindled and Kenny and Jan began enjoying dinners, visiting friends and family, traveling and visiting the casinos occasionally. Kenny and Jan have enjoyed playing cards and spending time with each other, family and friends.
Kenny is survived by his special friend Jan Shepard of Waterloo. His three sons: Duane (Sandy) of Monticello, Minnesota; Kirk, of Waterloo; and Wade (Jane) of Northfield, Minnesota. Grandchildren: Brian Lichty, Matt (Leslie) Lichty, Joshua (Jennifer) Kannegieter, Nicole (Rick) Johnson, Justin Lichty, Jennifer (Andy) Holicky, Brady Seesz & (Tamara Wiken), Mitchell (Skye) Seesz, Boomer (Courtney) Seesz. 17 great-grandchildren. Jan's children: Laurie & Scott Kammeyer of Waterloo; Gregg & Susan Shepard of Cedar Falls. He is preceded in death by JoAnn and his daughter, Wendy Ann and his parents, Harry and Frances Lichty.

In honoring Kenny's cherished memories, the family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers or memorial donations, contributions be directed towards your own families, fostering love and support within our community. Consider spending time together, perhaps enjoying some ice cream, exploring an apple orchard, casting a line for walleye, playing a game or simply taking a scenic car ride, as these were among Kenny's beloved pastimes. Your understanding and consideration during this time of loss are deeply appreciated.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Cedar Valley Hospice and Dr. Matt Kettman and staff.
