John Joseph Farrell, (AGE), of Charles City, passed away on (DATE) at (PLACE).

John was born on July 6, 1944, in Charles City, to Joseph W. and A. Maxine (Marker) Farrell. He and his brothers grew up in North Washington, attending St. Mary’s Grade School until their family moved to Charles City, where he graduated in 1962.

John proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict earning a Purple Heart (LIST OTHER MEDALS, ETC.). He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Upper Iowa University. John spent 10 years working as a machinist for White Farm before transitioning to his role in corrections as a probation officer. He was a member of Immculate Conception Catholic Church-Charles City and VFW Post #3914.

As an avid car enthusiast, John loved taking his Chevy Nova to car shows where it was very common for he and his Nova to leave with an award or two. John loved supporting his brother, Kenny, and nephews, Todd and Dylan, as they raced the local stock car circuit.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth (Julaine) Farrell, and nephew, Rodney Farrell.

John is survived by his mother, Maxine Farrell of Charles City; brother, Jerry (Sherry) Farrell of Hudson; 5 nieces, Shelly (Todd) Suhr of New Hampton, Karri (Brian McLeod) Simpson of Cedar Rapids, Penney (Jake Whitten) of Britten, Robyn (Tony) Crawford of New Hampton, and Kelley (Jeff Passmore) of Marion; 2 nephews, Jimmy (Brandy) Farrell of Denver, and Steve (Lexie) Farrell of Dike; 15 great-nieces and nephews, and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on (DATE) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Ln., Charles City.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on (DATE) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Ln., Charles City.with Rev. (PRIEST’S NAME), celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and VFW Post #3914.
