John Henry Becker

John Henry Becker

May 13, 1963 September 17, 2025

John Becker, 62, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester from complications of surgery.

He was born May 13, 1963, in Waterloo, the son of Arnold and Beverly Becker. He honorably served in the United States Army. Since 2010, he had lived side by side with the love of his life, Karen Herman.

John worked at Viking Pump for 13 years as a labor supervisor. He later worked at Black Hawk Roofing for a few years and, most recently, as a maintenance supervisor for three local mobile home parks. He was a former member of the International Association of Machinists. He also served as chairman of the union his final two years at Viking.

John enjoyed fishing, especially at night, and was always very social and outgoing. A handyman among his many talents, he frequently took every opportunity to help others. John would give the shirt off his back and his last dollar to someone in need without a second thought. He liked to play dice, was an action movie lover, enjoyed fast cars, and loved snowmobiling every winter. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family and his wife, Karen.

John is survived by his wife, Karen Herman-Becker of Waterloo; three children, Jennifer (Ben Hanson) Becker of Waterloo, Colton (Mariah Postell) Becker, and Dustin Cose; two stepchildren, Jennifer Roberts and Eric Herman; five grandchildren, Brayden, John, Mia, Dexter, and Rosalie, with one more on the way; four step-grandchildren, Mason, Isaac, Landon, and Myles; two brothers, Robert and Steve Becker, both of Waterloo; and a sister, Kimberly Becker of Dysart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mark Becker; an infant sister, Lorraine; and a stepdaughter, Melissa.

John had a big heart and it was full of love and understanding. He will truly be missed!
