Jo Ann Sievers, 81, of Waterloo, died Thursday, September 17, 2020 at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital.
She was born January 17, 1939 in Delight, Arkansas, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Farney) Lewallen.
She graduated from Mulvane High School in Mulvane, Kansas with the class of 1957. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Education and English in 1963 from uthwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.
She married Donald Coleman on June 27, 1959 at Mulvane Brethren Church; he preceded her in death on February 4, 1983. She married Charles Sievers on November 18, 1994; he preceded her in death on September 11, 2020.
Donald and Jo Ann moved to Waterloo in 1967 to help church planters Gene and Rita Hollinger begin the First Brethren Church in Cedar Falls. Jo Ann served as both a member and Deaconess in both the Brethren Church in Cedar Falls and the Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo.
Jo Ann taught 5th and 6th grades in Ohio as well as Kansas. She was nominated by her peers for the Outstanding Young Educator Award in Manhattan, Kansas. In addition to teaching, she worked part time in the Personnel Department at Sears for 15 years. She has also worked at Hertz Farm Management and Grace Baptist Church as office secretary for many years.
Survived by son, Mark Coleman of Oklahoma; two daughters, Kathryn Osajda of Illinois and Mary Lu Owens of Indiana; four grandchildren, Amanda and Julius Van Manan and Matthew and Taylor Owens.
Preceded in death by parents; husbands, Donald and Charles; and brother, William Lewallen.
