Janice B. Crowe, 91, longtime resident of Cedar Falls, died on Friday, February 28, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
She was born January 3, 1934, in Elk River, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (Washa) Stedry. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1952, and maintained many friendships with classmates throughout her life.
Janice married Harold Dean Crowe on December 18, 1952, at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Dean preceded her in death on May 23, 2008.
She was a homemaker, dedicated to raising their five children. As the children advanced through school, she herself pursued higher education. In 1974, she earned an associate degree from Hawkeye Community College. When Dean retired, the couple enjoyed many travel adventures.
Janice was involved in Girl Scouts her whole life; first as a girl member, then working for the Council, and finally as a volunteer troop leader.
Her love of stringed instruments and classical music led her to join the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, in which she played the viola until the late 1970s. She took pride in her Czech heritage, and was a member of the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in Cedar Rapids, where she attended many exhibits and programs.
All of Nature brought great joy to her life. Her backyard blooms each spring and summer with wildflowers she planted, an inviting habitat to a variety of wild birds and other animals. She will be missed by her feathered friends.
Janice is survived by her son, Curtis (Cindy) Crowe of Lafayette, CO; three daughters, Pamela (Edward) Steinman of Elizabeth, CO, Deanna Crowe of Thornton, CO, and Carol (Rick Fahnline) Crowe of Evergreen, CO; six grandchildren, Daniel Crowe, Lisa (Trevor) Stage, Kelley Crowe, Erin (Spencer Gerk) Steinman, Madelyn Fahnline, and Camden Fahnline; three great-grandchildren: Analeigh, Eloise, and Grayson.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Laurel Ann Crowe; and two sisters, Gwendolyn Bailey, and Demaris Ayers.
A memorial program will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave., with a short memorial gathering at the conclusion of the program, followed by burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo.
