Iner Franklin Gilson, 89, of Waterloo, passed away on Friday, January 19th at the UnityPoint Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Iner was born on November 13, 1934, in Oelwein, Iowa, to his parents Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Paulinda (Thomas) Gilson. He attended school in Oelwein and as a teenager, began working in a processing plant, which was to be followed by numerous jobs. He began his longstanding career with John Deere, where he worked as an automatic screw machine operator, retiring after 30 years of service.

On February 9, 1957, Iner was united in marriage to Barbara Wilson, in Oelwein. The couple welcomed 7 children into their family.

Iner was a member of the local UAW 838. In his free time, he enjoyed yardwork, working on cars, riding Indian motorcycles in his younger years, camping and boating, traveling with his family, listening to live music, watching old Westerns, and spending time at his trailer in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his children Robert (Venessa) of Evansdale, Richard (Shelly) of Waterloo, Connie Gilson of Elk Run Heights, David (Toni) of Elk Run Heights, Ronald (Teresa) of Waterloo, Kim (Joel) Graham of Raymond, and Tracy (Gene) Gilson of Waterloo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Iner is preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara; brother Laverne Gilson and sisters Sharon Hammond and Ilyene Primmer.

Visitation for Iner will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Avenue. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 24th at 11:00 AM at Locke at Tower Park. Burial will follow the funeral service at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family.
