Helen Marie Miller

Helen Marie Miller, 94, died January 21, 2021, at La Porte City Specialty Care. Helen was born July 25, 1926 in Pontiac, Michigan to Steve (Stelios) and Mary Albert Reginos (Regizos). She graduated from West High School, Waterloo, in 1944. She married John S. Miller, Jr. on September 7, 1946 in Waterloo, IA, Church of the Brethren, Orange Center. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2007.

She worked at Black’s Department Store in downtown Waterloo before she was married. She and her husband started farming west of Orange Center in 1950, moving to a farm south of La Porte City in 1965. Helen will be remembered for her unending loyal support of family, and her quiet, caring manner. She was the best cook with her much-loved specialties of homemade pies, deviled eggs and Grandma’s molasses cookies. She was also an avid goldfinch watcher and enjoyed growing flowers.

She was a member of the Mt. Auburn Methodist church and Mt. Auburn American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed giving of her time to these organizations when she was able. She especially enjoyed volunteering as part of the Auxiliary at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

She is survived by her children Mary (Rocky) Brown, Steve Miller, Lisa (Dennis) Sparks, all of La Porte City, nine grandchildren Kelly (Doug) Uhlenhopp, Heather (Trent) Miller, Chris (Kate) Miller, Eric (Amy) Miller, Paul (Ally) Hoffman, Philip (Rina) Hoffman, Amanda (Ryan) Hollenbeck, Mackenzie (Micah) Monroe, Clayton Sparks and 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, daughters JoAnn Miller, Gayle Miller, Sheryl McQueen, daughter-in-law Pam Miller, and sister, Margaret Kauten.
