CWO3 Harland “Chuck” Robinson, 71, of Waterloo, died Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born in Waterloo on April 27, 1954, to Paul and Phyllis (Jindrich) Robinson.

Harland graduated from West High School in 1972 and earned a BA in Political Science from UNI in 1985. He married his beloved wife Karla Hansen on May 24, 1980, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2021.

Harland was a proud Marine. He enlisted in the USMC in 1973 and retired as a CWO3 administrative chief and instructor 2000. After retiring he was the executive director of Hospice of Yuma, Az, and later in Phoenix.

Harland’s deep, personal faith was reflected in his service to the Catholic Church. In his current parish of Blessed Sacrament, he spearheaded the livestream program. As the Covid-19 lockdown kept people from attending Mass, international connections were made through Harland’s advanced work through livestream.

Jesus was a fisherman. Most of the Apostles were fishermen. Our beloved Harland was also a fisherman. Whether it was salmon, steelhead, kokanee in Idaho, or lonely souls, Harland was there.

Faith, honor, duty and love are the four pillars of Harland’s life. His family brought him great pride and joy, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons, David (Lisa) Hansen of Cedar Falls and Dale (Tamela) Hansen of Lillian Al, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his siblings: Cathryn Robinson, Cythnia (Don) Balsanek, Carol Robinson, Camille (Jeff) Roe, Paul (Roberta) Robinson, Thomas (Marilyn) Robinson, and Philip Robinson

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karla, and his parents.
