Gerald William Gates

Gerald “Bill” Gates, 72, of Waterloo, formerly of Minneapolis, died at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo, on Thursday, May 27, 2010.

Gerald William Gates was born on December 15, 1937 in Waterloo the son of Clifford and Elsie Loy Gates.

He and his companion Kenneth L. Robinson were together for 47 years until Kenneth died February 4, 2008.

Bill was a Chef at the Mayflower Seafood Restaurant in Minneapolis. He was a member of St. James AME in St. Paul.

Bill is survived by seven brothers: Clifford Gates of Waterloo, LaVerne (Jeanette) Gates of Hanover, Pennsylvania; Don (Shirley) Gates of Aurora, Missouri; Kenny Gates of Waterloo; Ronnie Gates of Waterloo; Larry (Annie) Gates of Waterloo; and Dennis Gates of Waterloo; three sisters: Barbara Davis of Waterloo; Joan Hanley of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Karen Moore of Waterloo; ten godchildren: Desmond Cage, Shantell Taylor, Rico Myles, LaTika Speller, Mitchell Berry, Dupree Smith, Brittney Smith and the three he and Kenneth raised: Ivy Crenshaw, Gerald Martin and Noel Martin; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his life companion, parents, three brothers: Gary, Robert, and John and three sisters: LaVonne Rochholz, Sally Gates and Betty Englehardt.
