Etta Mae Wisecup

Etta Mae Wisecup

March 28, 1925 December 7, 2019

Etta M. (Mauderly) Wisecup, 94, of Raymond, died in her home Saturday, December 7, 2019 of natural causes.

Daughter of Jerome and Zoa (Sollars) Mauderly, Etta was born March 28, 1925 near Gravity, Iowa in Taylor county. On October 16, 1942, Etta married the love of her life, Sterling A Wisecup. Their marriage lasted an incredible 64 years before Sterling’s passing in January of 2007, and together they had one daughter, Linda.

Being strong in her faith, Etta served as a proud member of the Raymond United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years where she loved to help others whenever and wherever she could. Special, classy, sweetest, kindest, most caring are the words that best describe Etta by family, friends, and acquaintances who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives. Etta also enjoyed reading, fishing, playing cards, golfing, gardening, the many vacations she shared with her husband, her grandkids, great grandkids and spending time with her extended family and the many friends that she and Sterling were fortunate enough to gather throughout their lifetime.

After her high school graduation in 1943, Etta followed Sterling around the west coast while he was in basic training. During this time, Etta found work wherever she could to help pay for whatever lodging she could find. After Sterling was shipped overseas to the Pacific Theater, Etta accepted a teaching position at the Mayflower School (a one-room schoolhouse) to help earn a little extra money. After Linda was born, she also very briefly taught Kindergarten at Poyner #7 and held the occasional seasonal job in a department store here and there but her main focus was always on her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Steven) Wachal of Dunkerton; four grandchildren, Aaron (Andrea) Bruns of Raymond, Jeremy (Jill) Wachal of Iowa Falls, Jason (Jodi) Wachal of Oelwein, and Ashley (Jeremy) Grimm of Independence; and 8 great grandchildren, Gavin, Alise, Aria, and Gianna Wachal of Iowa Falls, Jonathon and Jacquelynn Wachal of Oelwein, and Alex and Dakota Grimm of Independence.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Sterling, brother Corwin Mauderly, sisters Velma (Mauderly) Crowe, Lucille Mauderly, and Ardith (Mauderly) Henniger.
