Duane R. Harp, Sr., 88, of Gladbrook and formerly of Mount Auburn, died on Friday, November 19, 2021.

He was born in Waterloo on November 23, 1932, the son of Lloyd C. Sr. and Myrtle (Farr) Harp.

Duane served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from December 12, 1952 until his honorable discharge on November 30, 1954. He served in the 5th Armored Division, A Company Armored Infantry Battalion. After his discharge, he served many years in the Army Reserve.

He worked as a machinist for John Deere for 34 years until retiring in 1985. After retirement, he became a tour guide for John Deere.

Duane married Karen E. Gregory on February 23, 1957 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He had been a member at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church. Duane was a longtime leader and supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and Webelos. He enjoyed playing golf. Duane was musically talented, often singing and playing the old country hits on his guitar.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Harp of Mount Auburn; two daughters, Wanda (Larry) Schares and Dawn (Michael) Athey both of La Porte City; two sons, Kevin (Shelly) Harp of Jesup and Duane (Carrie) Harp, Jr. of Gilbertville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren, and sister, Darlene Bland of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by his parents; son, Rick Harp, Sr., brother, Lloyd Harp, Jr., half-brother, Harry Beebe; and half-sister, Katherine "Louise" (Beebe) Azbill.
