Dorothy Louise McQuown

Dorothy Louise McQuown, 88, of Waterloo, IA, died on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at NewAldaya Lifescapes at Cedar Falls, IA.

Dorothy was born on September 1, 1936, in Lamoni, IA, daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Strohm Mathiasch.

Dorothy graduated from Marshalltown High School Class of 1954. Later, she earned an accounting degree from AIC in 1992.

She worked at K-Mart in customer service for 10 years, retiring in April 2016. She had worked other jobs but was mostly a homemaker.

Dorothy felt very blessed to have two girls and three boys. They were the light of her life. From these five children she had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.

Dorothy was a Baptist in her faith and had been a Boy and Girl Scouts leader. She enjoyed golfing, roller skating, dancing and watching races that her dad's car was competing in. In her later years she enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.

Dorothy is survived by sons, Mike (Liz) Benson and Joe (Darwin) McQuown-Hovey; daughters, Becky (Terry) Angle and Kathy Edwards; daughter-in-law, Sondra Benson; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and special friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert "Rick" Benson; twin son, Jarrod Benson, Jr,. who died at birth; and son-in-law, Rick Edwards.

Memorial Services: 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th St., Waterloo.

Visitation: for one hour before services at the funeral home.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Waterloo Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
