Dorothy Jean Garrison

Dorothy Jean Garrison, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer.

She was born February 13, 1937, in Waterloo, the daughter of George and Lulu (Brink) Westergaard. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1954. She married Richard "Dick" Garrison on March 13, 1955, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death December 18, 2012.

Dorothy was self-employed as a daycare provider for many years. She previously worked at Hawkeye Steel for 10 years and was the secretary at Central Christian Church in Waterloo.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo where she sang in the choir and volunteered for many church activities. She enjoyed crafting and crocheting, Winnie the Pooh characters, and reading. She and Dick were avid motorcycle riders and were members of the Central Iowa Side Car Club and Venture Touring Society.

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Luann (Alan) Long of Cedar Falls, Nancy (Danny Sinnes) Christensen of Port Angeles, WA, Larry (Andrea) Garrison of Stewartsville, MN, and Neal (Stephanie) Garrison of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a grandson, James J. Christensen; and her sister, Marleen Janssen.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with visitation for one hour prior to services at the church.
