Dorothy Angela Condon

Dorothy Angela Condon, 92, of Waterloo, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

Dorothy was born on January 20, 1932, in Elma, IA, daughter of William Alois and Frances Delores Kuhn Shimek.

Dorothy graduated valedictorian from East Waterloo High School in 1950 and received an Associate Degree in Nursing from Mount Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

She married Gerald Condon on September 29, 1956, in Waterloo; he died May 5, 2018.

She was an RN and worked in the OB/Gyn at St. Francis and Covenant Hospitals for 26 years, retiring in 1982.

Dorothy was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

She was a life-long learner, gardener, seamstress and a devoted volunteer in many organizations.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Judith Wightman of Iowa City; daughter Maribeth (Rob) Boelts Sterner of Janesville; son David (Cindy) Condon of Waterloo; son John (Teresa) Condon of Decorah; son Joseph Condon of Walnut Creek, CA; daughter Monica (James) Stern of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also, by her brother George (Roberta) Shimek of Waterloo; sister Mary Ann Gloe of Decorah; and brother William (Sylvia) Shimek of Waterloo.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son in law Darwin Boelts; sisters Judith Ann Shimek, Virginia (Anthony) McBride and Carolyn Hau and brother Conrad Shimek.

Services: 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 19, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church followed by burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo.

Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 PM Monday, November 18, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th St., Waterloo.
