Donald Frank Heckroth, 90, of La Porte City, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, surrounded by his family at his daughter's residence.

Don was born on June 17, 1934, on a farm in Waterloo, to Frank and Viola (Fehr) Heckroth. He married Jo Anne Lee on February 7, 1964, in Vinton; she preceded him in death on January 11, 2024.

Don graduated from Orange Township and later on earned his real estate license. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army. He spent his career working for Waterloo Water Works, retiring after 20 plus years of service. After retirement, Don sold real estate and farmed on the family farm with his wife, Jo. He and Jo enjoyed spending time on the golf course, traveling all over, and spoiling their grandchildren. Don was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church-La Porte City, Washburn Moose Lodge #328, VFW Post #3983, American Legion Post #301, and VFW Post #3895 in La Hoya, TX.

He is also preceded in death by his parents, son, Lonnie Heckroth, and sister, Marlis Wrage.

Don is survived by children, Steve (Debbie) Wilson of La Porte City and Stephanie (Troy) Randall of Independence; grandchildren, Chris (Randi) Wilson, USAF Tech Sergeant, Dave (Jess) Wilson, Brittany Grendler, Lance (Rachelle) Randall, Thaden (Zoe) Randall; great-grandchildren: Ezekiel and Isabella Randall, and Jack Wilson; and his extended family in Texas.

Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at St. Paul Methodist Church-La Porte City. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m.at St. Paul Methodist Church-La Porte City.

Inurnment for Don and Jo Anne will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Gnagy Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Army and American Legion Post #309.
