Delores Lawson Guhl, 95, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at NorthCrest Specialty Care in Waterloo.

She was born on June 20, 1930, in Muscatine, daughter of Guy F. and Edith C. Kallenberger Lawson. Following her parents’ divorce, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Roy and Ella Law.

Delores graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1948. She married Edmund Guhl on May 13, 1948, in Vinton; he preceded her in death on April 24, 2011.

Delores worked in the children’s department of Black’s Department Store from 1967 to 1974. She then was a library associate at Central High School from 1974 to 1987 and then went on to Longfellow Elementary School from 1991 until her retirement in 1995.

Delores sang with the Waterloo Mother’s Chorus for several years, sang in the Our Saviors Church Choir, and as a soloist for many years.

Delores is survived by three sons, Larry (Char) Guhl of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Lora Schmoll) Guhl of Solon, and Ralph (Lavonne) Guhl of Waterloo; two daughters, Rhonda Stewart of Grandview, TX, and Deanna (Darin) Wilkerson of Canyon, TX; two daughters-in-law, Sara Guhl of Palmer, AK, and Julie Guhl of Waterloo; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Wanda) Lawson of Roswell, NM, and Leon (Barb) Bausch of Rockport, ME, two brothers-in-law, Clark Ogden of Roach, MO, and Mike Brannon of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-parents, and mother and father-in-law; brothers and their wives’, Elwood (Mabel), Merle (Bonnie), and Emery (Mary) Law, and in infancy, Charles and David Lawson; sisters, Becky Brannon, Janet Odgen, and in infancy, Carol Ann Lawson, and Lois and Maxine Law; two sons, Rick and James Guhl; two daughters-in-law, Alisa and Patty Guhl; two grandsons, Scott Guhl and Brian Guhl McNeal; and great-granddaughter, Amanda Ivory Guhl.

Visitation: 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
