David Louis Metcalf

David L. Metcalf, 66, of Waterloo, died on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

He was born May 26, 1959, in Waterloo, the son of Vincent and Rosemary (Schmitz) Metcalf. He graduated from Don Bosco High School in 1978.

David married Jan McDonald on November 26, 1988, at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo; they were later divorced.

He worked at Bertch Cabinets, alongside his brother-in-law at Millbridge Cabinet Manufacturing, and also for Haycraft Custom Cabinets until he had to retire due to a brain aneurysm. He enjoyed biking, fishing, and his Diet Pepsi. His greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughter, Parker.

David is survived by his daughter, Morgan (Beau) Hook of La Porte City; his granddaughter, Parker; a brother, Robert (Vicci) Metcalf of La Porte City; a sister, Debra (Leonard) Becker of Minnesota; five nephews, Rob (Chris) Metcalf, James Metcalf, Nick Metcalf, Garrett Metcalf, and Mitchell Metcalf; two nieces, Corinna (Jason) Clemen, and Katie (Mike) Vance; two great-nieces; and six great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parent; and two brothers, Daniel Metcalf and Gary Metcalf.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, at Locke at Tower Park. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Gilbertville. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., is assisting the family.
