David B. “Dave” Loonan, 76, of Cedar Falls, died at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center, on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.

Dave was born on September 11, 1937 in Normal, IL, the son of Carroll and Emma Stewart Loonan.

He attended the Iowa School for the Blind in Vinton in his early years where he medaled in wrestling. The Blind School was noted for its wrestling team and competing against sighted schools. Dave later attended McKinstry Elementary School in Waterloo and then graduated from West High School in 1959.

Dave married Connie Lee Long August 20, 1966 in Waterloo. She died March 21, 2012.

He worked in the maintenance department at the University of Northern Iowa for 39 years, retiring in 2000.

Dave was member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He was active in 4-H. While able, he and Connie loved to travel and tour the USA visiting most of the national parks. Cruises were to their liking also. He was an animal lover and his favorite dog was “Red.”

Survived by: a brother, Gary (Gerri) Loonan of Huntley, IL; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Art) Weltzin of Waterloo; and 4 nieces and a nephew.

Preceded in death by: parents and wife.
