Daniel Ray Combs

Daniel R. "Shorty" Combs, 67, of Waterloo, died on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home after a short battle with cancer.

Shorty was born on March 12, 1957, in Iowa City, to Lawrence T. and Margaret A. (Grady) Combs. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1975. After high school, Shorty worked many random jobs with his latest being a Quality Control Inspector for Tyson-Waterloo. In 1980, he married Debra Cox, they later divorced in 2010. He later found a special companion, with whom he spent the rest of his days with, Joleen Maser.

Shorty enjoyed fishing, all animals (especially his cats) and being outdoors. He had a huge heart and loved helping others out any way that he could, whether it be cooking for his neighborhood friends or providing food for the neighborhood animals. Shorty was always willing to help where he could at all cost.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael (Shorty's twin), Larry, Ronnie, Richard, Bruce and Tim; sisters, Connie, Mary Jane, and Delores.

Shorty is survived by his sons, Daniel L. Combs of Grundy Center and and Michael Combs of Cedar Falls; daughter, Jennifer (Justin) Harrold of Evansdale; 3 grandchildren, Cadence Griggs, Madilyn and Cash Combs; brothers, Randy, Jack, and George (Winnie); sisters, Nancy (Arnie), Cheryl, and Donna; and many nieces and nephews.

The Combs family is hosting a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.
