Daniel Michael Gorman

Daniel “Dan” Michael Gorman, 81, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 27, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edward Gorman Sr and Bernadine Driscoll Gorman. Dan graduated from St Patrick’s Catholic High School in Cedar Rapids. He joined the US Navy in 1962 and served aboard the USS Forrestal CVA 59 and later served in the US Air Force. Dan married Dori Chapman on January 31, 1992. He spent most of his adult life selling life insurance for various Catholic organizations.

Dan loved everything Irish, and he disliked pizza. He was a quiet person who enjoyed playing darts and pool and attending Jace’s sporting events. Dan was extremely proud of his Navy service. He was devoted to his wife and children and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. Dan was a Notre Dame fan and rooted for the Yankees and the Giants but had been reformed and became a Packers fan. Mostly, Dan had a sense of humor and is remembered as being a jokester.

Dan is survived by his wife, Dori, of Waterloo; children Brendan (Anna) Gorman of San Angelo, TX, Elona Gorman and Jace Gorman, both of Waterloo; 8 grandchildren; sister Julie (Lynn) Lawrence of Hiawatha; brother-in-law Denny Duggan of Waterloo; sister-in-law Carol Gorman; mother-in-law Donna Chapman of Waterloo; his faithful dog, Shiloh; and many other family and friends. He was preceded by his parents, his stepfather Claude Hixenbaugh, brother Ed Gorman Jr., nephew Ben Sufficool, father-in-law Jim Chapman and brother-in-law Bob Chapman.

A Memorial Service for Dan will be Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11:00 am at Locke on 4th St, 1519 W 4th Street, Waterloo, with a time of visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions should be directed to the family.
