Charles “Charlie” Bentley, 77, of Centerville, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, July 11, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. He was born February 17, 1948, in Waterloo, son of Herbert and Minnie (Chapman) Bentley. He married Evonne Jean Heath and they later divorced. He then married Shirley De Ann Benker in 1997.

Charlie worked in maintenance in the Foundry at John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 2005. He also worked as a mechanic and was well known for being “the Repo Man”. After retirement he and Shirley moved to an acreage west of Centerville.

Charlie was a wonderful husband and father to his three daughters, “Charlie’s girls” They enjoyed time at the racetrack where Charlie raced with his brothers, cousins and many friends. They also attended many fairs. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the “littles”. He took great pride in teaching his grandchildren to hunt and fish on his own land.

He was not one to just sit around. After retirement he piddled with farming and enjoyed growing flowers. He was a driver for the Amish. He had card group on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and hunted and fished on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He could be found taking care of their land “Cast-N-Blast Farm” on the weekends.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Shirley, three daughters: Natasha (Ken) Packard, Nataleah Morgan, and Tenille (Jeremy) Fish, his stepchildren: Nicholas Lampe, Cory (Sarah) Levendusky, Staci (Chad) Frush, Emily (Craig) Williams, and Tiffany Tiedt. As well as 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his sister Marlys and her husband Dale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Lawrence, Paul, Jerry, John, Sharon, and Marilyn in infancy, Son-in-law, Chad Morgan, and granddaughter Kenzie Farmer.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Locke Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave, with visitation one hour prior from 12:00 – 1:00. Memorials may be directed to the family.
