Carol Jean Condit

Carol Jean (Harsh Smith) Condit, 94, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Friendship Village-Wellspring Living.

Carol was born on December 21, 1929, in West Allis, WI, to Edward and Viola (Brix) Harsh. She graduated from West Allis Central High School in 1947. She married James Herbert Smith in 1948; they later divorced. Carol earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree from Hawkeye Tech in 1972. She married Robert B. Condit at the Calvary United Methodist Church on May 18, 1973; he preceded her in death on February 23, 2022. Carol worked as an LPN at Covenant Medical Center for 18 years, retiring in 1989. She then went on to work with "Sure Care", home care for 5 years. Carol was a member of Cedar Valley Community Church where she volunteered at the welcome center. She played piano for fun, loved to read, and enjoyed traveling with Bob to all 50 states and several European countries.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, son, James E. Smith, daughter, Loreen Smith, stepson, Jeffrey Condit.

Carol is survived by her son, Bill (Katie Boyle) Smith of Tucson, AZ; son-in-law, Dwight Smith of Cedar Falls; stepdaughter, Jodie (Rodney) Shirley of Houston, TX; 6 step grandchildren, and 8 step great-grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Cedar Valley Church, 3520 Ansborough Ave Waterloo. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Valley Church. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery-Waterloo.
