Carl Elvin Schuler, 92, of Waterloo, passed away on Tuesday, November 28th at Friendship Village Wellspring, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.

Carl was born on June 12, 1931, in Fairbank, Iowa, to his parents Arthur Elvin and Dorathy (Elinor) Teisinger. After attending school, Carl began his career as a laborer. On June 10, 1949, Carl was united in marriage to Shirley LaPole, in front of the Justice of the Peace in Cedar Falls; the couple were blessed with four children.

At the beginning of Carl's working years, he started at Mauser Construction as a bricklayer, later at John G. Carl was a board member on the Iowa Builders Retirement Board and was on the Masonry Institute of the Iowa Board. He was also a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers and volunteered his time and skills to help construct the Veterans Memorial and the Snowden House, both in Waterloo.

Having started his apprenticeship in April of 1951, Carl had 72 years of continuous service with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers 3. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and riding horses and motorcycles.
