Bernice E. King, 97, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities.
Bernice was born on August 17, 1927, in Sparland, IL, to Dewey and Hazel Daniels Hodge. She graduated from high school in Sparland in 1946.
She married Earl A. Mackenburg July 6, 1959, in Caledonia, MN; he died January 26, 1979. She married Norman A. King, Sr., on January 15, 1983, in Waterloo; he died September 21, 2013.
Bernice worked in the Waterloo Community Schools food service for 3 years prior to working in the John Deere PEC cafeteria in 1981. She retired in 1984.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was treasurer of the Women of the Church. Bernice and Norm volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed crocheting and baking. Bernice also enjoyed listening to books on tape.
Bernice is survived by her son, Neal (Laura) Mackenburg of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Arik Mackenburg and Kristin Mackenburg; great grandson, Baylor Brecht-Mackenburg; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brother, Dean Hodge and sister, Vera Robison.
Private burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo.
