Arlet Elvin Cassaidy, 89, of Ames, formerly of Waterloo, died on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Arlet was born on July 10, 1935, in Bonaparte, IA, to Edward and Rena (White) Cassaidy. He graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1953 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Parsons College in 1959. Arlet served in the United States Army, with the 1063rd Aviation unit in Waterloo. He married Sandra Kathleen Tedrow on August 12, 1962, at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Libertyville; she preceded him in death on November 9, 2014. Arlet worked for the Iowa Workforce Department in the unemployment insurance division, retiring as an area manager after 37 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waterloo.
He is also preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Esmond (Gladys) Cassaidy, and brother-in-law, Ed Hutton.
Arlet is survived by his sons, Brian (Julie) Cassaidy of Ames, and Kevin (Lisa) Cassaidy of Mount Prospect, IL; grandchildren, Kyle (Britteny), Ben (Kate), Lauren, Matt, and Grace; and sister, Myrna Hutton of Prescott Valley, AZ.
Visitation and Funeral Service: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Katherine Graham Pahl Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery-Waterloo. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense, American Legion Becker Chapman Post #138, and VFW #1623.
