Alice Kay Perrenoud, born on March 16, 1947, at Jefferson County Hospital, passed away peacefully at Cedar Valley Hospice on November 8,2025. She was the beloved daughter of Kenneth Albert and Leila Francis (Watson) Perrenoud of Fairfield, Iowa.
Alice graduated from Fairfield High School in 1965 and went on to earn her degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1969. In 1997, she furthered her education by earning a Master’s degree from Viterbo University. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career with the Waterloo Community School District, where she dedicated 33 years to teaching and inspiring young minds. She enriched the lives of the students and staff of Washburn, Cedar Terrace, and Elk Run Elementary Schools.
On June 21, 1969, Alice married Roger Diehl, and together they built a loving family that included their two children, Michelle and Mark. Alice was deeply involved in the Girl Scouts of America throughout her life. She served as a camp counselor at La Kee Ja (1965), Camp Woodland (1966) and Camp Sacajawea (1967-68). Alice volunteered as a troop leader for her daughter, and was a member of her granddaughters’ troops, leaving a lasting impact on countless young women.
Alice had a passion for quilting and created many beautiful quilts over the years. She spread her knowledge of sewing and embroidering to those around her, including her grandchildren. Her generosity shone through as she donated these works of art to those in need, spreading warmth and comfort to others.
Alice is survived by her husband of 56 years Roger, her brother Bill Perrenoud, her children: Michelle (Ben Bessman) and Mark, five grandchildren Grant Bessman, Kenneth Noble, Cameron Bessman, Alea Diehl, McKenzie Diehl and the many hearts and minds she nourished. Her legacy of kindness, dedication to education, and love for her family will be cherished by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those whose lives she touched.
Memorial Visitation: 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday November 16, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo. Inurnment to take place at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery at prior to the memorial visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to your local food bank or hospice.
