Alice Joan White

Alice Joan White, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Waterloo, Iowa.

She was 79 years old and was born on March 10, 1944, in Waterloo, daughter of Ferdinand "Fritz" and Kathleen (Klein) Schaefer. She graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo in 1962, and attended Airline Preparatory School in Omaha, NE. Following Airline Prep School, she worked for the Navy Annex in Washington, DC, serving in 1963.

Alice married Larry White on September 14, 1963, and their union lasted for 60 years until her death. She was a teacher's aide and librarian for many years at St. Edward School in Waterloo. She was also active in funeral planning at St. Edward Church, where she was a member. She enjoyed playing bridge and had a wide circle of friends. She was a sociable, outgoing, and friendly lady, and enjoyed cooking and activities at her church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Larry White of Waterloo; four children, Erin (Wes) Hays of Wildwood, MO, Randy (Joy) White of Redondo Beach, CA, Greg (Veronica) White of Brandon, FL, and Kim Stone of Westchester, PA; 12 grandchildren, Dan White, Sam White, Nick White, Jacob Stone, Casey Hays, Evan Hays, Joy White, Veronica White, Alexis Stone, Olivia Stone, Gabriella White, and Addison Hays; her mother, Kaye Schaefer; two brothers, Gene (Carla) Schaefer of Gilbert, and Phil (Pam) Schaefer of Asbury; a sister, Sue (Pat) McLean of Traer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by her father.

Mass of Christian of burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at St. Edward Catholic Church. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
