Alice Delores Pegees

April 16, 1922 July 27, 2024

Our angel Mother Alice (AD) Pegees was born April 16, 1922, in Durant, Mississippi to Annie Lauren Washington and Henry Matlock. She departed this life on July 27, 2024.

Mother Pegees grew up in Durrant, Mississippi when times were rough. She picked cotton in the fields until she was 7 years old. Then she was moved to the kitchen to assist the elders that were in the kitchen. She had many memories of her life and her brothers and sisters, especially her Papa and Ma. The joy she had was remarkable and the jokes. She was a very humorous individual. Mother Pegees loved all her generation of grandkids and would do whatever she could for all of them. Her relationship with her grandchildren made her life amazing!

Mother Pegees worked at MHI in Independence, Iowa for many years. She was a baker and loved to make caramel cakes. She was also a CAN. I believe that is the blessing that her great-grandchildren and great-great endure it from.

She loved her puzzles and crossword puzzles. Stitching quilts was her thang. There were not many titles Mother Pegees didn't carry during her time here on earth. She was mother, momma, G-Mom, and grandmom (AD). To her family, she will always be the guardian angel and protector, whom they loved so much. She was a faithful and the oldest Mother of Believers of Christ Church. She loved Dr. Pastor Faye Scott and her church family.

Mother Pegees leaves to cherish her memories her grandchildren, Mary (Jimmie) Hopkins, Tammy Holmes, Gwynnette Wright, Vinneator Bruce, Kendrick Bruce, Percy Bruce, Calvin Outlaw, Kelvin Outlaw, Deshone Outlaw, Willie (Leondra), Lamar (Andrea) Outlaw, Barbara Outlaw (Ernest) Fisher; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sampson Pegees; 3 daughters, Deacon Mary Katherine Outlaw, Mary Lee "Bird" Bruce, and Annie Laura Matlock; her parents, Annie Laura and Henry Matlock; 4 brothers, William, Henry, Nathan, and Willie Gus Matlock; 2 sisters, Mary Ella Greer and Evelyn Galloway.
