Jace L. Hicok, 64, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at MercyOne Waterloo from complications after a long battle with lung cancer.

He was born February 3, 1959, in Waterloo, the son of Robert and Henrietta "Kay" (DeVries) Hicok.

Jace graduated from Waterloo East High School with the class of 1977. He later continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa receiving a computer science degree in 2007.

He married Catherine Lidtke on May 10, 1980 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Jace was a computer programmer at DISTek for many years until retiring in July of 2022.

He was an active member at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where he and Catherine had been youth group leaders. Jace was very musically talented, singing in the worship band and playing the bass guitar. He also sang in the Proud Image Chorus. He had been a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader when his son, Grant, was younger. Jace enjoyed working on projects around the house, doing yardwork and maintaining his gardens.

Survived by his wife, Catherine Hicok of Waterloo; son, Grant (Jody) Hicok of Elk Run Heights; daughter, Melissa Hicok of Waterloo; and grandson, Eli Hicok.

Preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy, Bryan Hicok.

Jace has been cremated according to his wishes.

Jace, you will certainly be missed. Spent many hours with you talking about VNSM (CAN) DB. May it carry on as you're legacy.
