Gary W. Beneke, 76, of Waterloo died peacefully Friday, March 4, 2022. Gary was born on June 6, 1945, in Caledonia, MN, the son of Walter and Margaret Thiele Beneke. He attended school in Caledonia where he graduated in 1963 and furthered his education at the University of Minnesota. Gary received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967.

Gary married Karen Collins on June 18, 1966, in Caledonia and they were blessed with two sons. He worked for FS (now Growmark) for over forty years rising to the position of General Manager and retiring on December 30, 2010. Gary was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls and had been a member of the Jaycees and Elks Club in Baraboo and Kenosha, WI and Corydon, IA. In his free time, Gary enjoyed golf, racquetball, bowling, fishing and traveling. Over the years he sang in church choirs and served on many church councils and committees. For Gary, family, and especially his grandchildren, were his world.

Left to celebrate his life are his wife; sons, Jeff (Renae) Beneke and their children Ethan and Emily, of Cedar Falls and Brian (Liz) Beneke and their children Laden and Lilah and his grand-dog George, of Roseville, MN; a brother, Garnet (Carla) Beneke of Onalaska, WI and a sister, Ann Lubinski of Winona, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St John Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Julie and I are very sad to hear of Gary's passing. Gary and I crossed paths many times in our career with FS. He was well liked by many and will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Karen and family. A good friend, Sam Skemp

I had the good fortune of working with Gary on the board for our home owner's association. His knowledge and experience were eclipsed only by his patience and willingness to teach. I learned a lot from Gary and I will miss our conversations about condo business and his grandchildren's sporting events. Rest in peace, good sir.

Karen: please accept our deepest sympathy in your loss. I first met Gary when you were in Southern Iowa. I remember when you went to Kenosha. I managed Kenosha in the early 70’s. I pray that God’s will give you his peace and strength as you adjust to life without Gary.

Oh the memories we've had while you all were in Corydon. We both got Halloween edition and Barbara was trying to have a baby. The laughter we all got from pizza night. And the fu on camping trips. Gary was a great boss and he taught me how to do my job. Love you both and prayers for you Karen. ❤

I was both shocked and saddened to learn that Gary had passed away - I had no idea he was ill. He was such a nice guy, and all of us enjoyed having you both singing in our choir at St. John. He had that great booming bass voice that rounded out the sound, providing the depth and foundation to each anthem. We in the Women's Ensemble want to be there to support you in the difficult days ahead, Karen. We will keep you in our prayers.
