Elizabeth McCoy, 89, of Longboat Key, FL, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died in Waterloo on Sunday, January 3, 2016.
Betty was born March 6, 1926, in Madison, WI, daughter of Frederick and Ethel Houlehan Gunkel. She married Robert Jackson McCoy on April 19, 1946 in Madison WI; he died April 10, 2000.
She graduated from high school in Madison and attended University of Wisconsin. Betty was a member of Kingsley PTA, Junior League, an active Red Cross volunteer and with American Cancer Society, and with many anonymous gifts and acts of kindness to others and her community. Betty and Jane Titus formed Study Group which had its fiftieth anniversary January 6, 2016. Betty loved nature and the outdoors and all of God’s creation.
Survivors include: son Jackson F. (Gail) McCoy of Miami, FL; daughter Kathy (Tim Hurley) McCoy of Waterloo; six grandchildren: Robert (fiancée Meredith Johnson) McCoy, Michael McCoy, Shannon McCoy, Andrea Dunlay, Jennifer (Steve) O’Hara, and Christopher (Autumn) Hurley; nine great-grandchildren: Meghan, Lauren, Emma and Joe Dunlay; Frank, Kathleen, and Ellen O’Hara; and Evelyn and Claire Hurley; sister Margaret Seehafer of Chicago, IL; and brother Ted (Linda) Gunkel of Madison.
Preceded in death by: parents, husband, son Bill McCoy, sister Ione Carmen and brother Frederick Gunkel.
