Loran Leroy Middlekauff, 92, of Hudson, Iowa, died at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer Saturday, October 27, 2012.

Loran was born April 18, 1920, in Waterloo, the son of Roy and Veda Stech Middlekauff.

He graduated from Hudson High School in 1938 and worked on the farm until joining the Navy in 1942. He served as an aviation Machinist Mate during WWII, including a tour on the USS Coral Sea.

Loran married Ruth Cowie May 23, 1959, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Ruth died May 27, 2008. He farmed in the Hudson area for his entire life.

Loran was a member of United Methodist Church of Hudson, past Commander and Adjutant for 28 years of Hudson American Legion Post #559, Past Commander and Adjutant for Black Hawk County American Legion, past director of Black Hawk Township Farm Bureau, and past secretary of Black Hawk County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by niece Cindy Erpelding of Irma, Wisconsin; niece April Sage of Edwardsville, Illinois; niece Marianne Sage of Florence, Arizona; niece Debbie Scoby of Salem, Missouri; cousin Glenn (Lynae) Stech of Waterloo; and cousin Nancy (Dennis) Stull of Bluffton, South Carolina.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son David, and sister Beverly Ehlenfeldt.
