Melvin P. “Scotty” Kleinendorst, 82, of Waterloo died at Covenant Medical Center on Monday, April 2, 2007.
He was born May 15, 1924, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Peter and Geraldine Vanderbeek Kleinendorst.
Scotty married Marjorie Lazemby on March 5, 1950, in Waterloo at the Linden United Methodist Church.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII with the 2137th AAF Base Unit, receiving the distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
He was Vice President of Schoitz Engineering, retiring in 1985 after 40 years with the company.
He belonged to the Waterloo Sunrise Exchange Club; he also volunteered and managed the petting zoo for seven years. He was a member of the American Model Airplane Assoc. and the Black Hawk Radio Controlled Pilots. He was an avid snow skier, fisherman and gardener.
Scotty is survived by wife Marjorie of Waterloo, son Steven and his wife Debbie of Davenport, son Alan and his wife Denise of Waterloo, daughter Bonnie Aschoff and her husband David of Ankeny, eight grandchildren: Tressa Mortensen and her husband Chad; Julia, Eric and Angela Kleinendorst; and Jenna, Shannon, Amber, and Marcus Aschoff, and sister-in-law Bea Kleinendorst of Fairbank.
He is preceded in death by brothers Hubert and Theodore Kleinendorst and sister Jeanetta Christensen.
