William “Bill” John Wyre, 64, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026, at Thuesen Cottage in Cedar Falls.
Bill was born on July 26, 1961, to Cecil E. Wyre and Vivian Verna (Meyer) Wyre. Bill graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL, in 1979. He then attended Roosevelt University in Chicago, where he received his bachelor’s in marketing in 1985 and his master’s in marketing communications in 1986. During his studies, Bill participated in theater and journalism.
After graduating, Bill began his marketing and advertising career at the Leo Burnett Advertising Company. After moving to Newton, Iowa in 1993 with his former spouse Stacy Goodrich, he began his tenure at Maytag Appliances. He later worked at Emerson, where he served as the Manager of Global Marketing and Business Development for 9 years. Between 2002 and 2010, Bill also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Buena Vista University. Bill was recognized for his work contributions to the Newton Jaycee’s 65th Anniversary Celebration campaign in 1994 and received the Nova Award for Integrated Marketing Campaign by the American Marketing Association in 2009.
Bill’s life was rich in community, as he never passed up an opportunity to start a conversation. His loved ones describe him as a conduit of entertainment, a dedicated supporter, and a consistent source of smiles. He had a healthy balance of stubbornness and wit. Even in his later years, he could make those around him laugh. Bill’s free and fun-loving spirit made him the perfect person to play games like Monopoly, Risk, and Rummy. In addition to supporting his kids’ many interests, he could be found taking long walks around the town until he ran into a stranger that would instantly turn into a friend.
Bill is survived by his three children; Austin (Madigan) Wyre, Kathryn Wyre, and Laura Wyre; four siblings, Carla (Jerry) Hegeduis, Chris (Terry) Bryant, Jim Wyre, and Tom Wyre; as well as lifelong friend Parveen Goyal.
A family hosted celebration of life will be held from 1-4 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Lawn City, 315 Main St, Cedar Falls.

Bill was such an amazing man and so caring. I remember when I first met him. It was at a Leo Burnett function. This was his second day of work. He was sitting by himself and I went up to him and I introduce myself to him we struck up a conversation and we were talking as if we’ve known each other for years. I instantly liked him! I introduced him to a couple of my friends that day and they instantly liked him. Bill was just that type of guy that when you spoke with him, he treated you as if he was your best friend. He was always so caring and thoughtful and everyone at Burnett loved him, My condolences to his family and to all of his friends. We love Bill so much. Bill will be truly missed. I will always keep you in my heart, my friend.
