William Paul Abbott

March 14, 1968 January 8, 2026

William ‘Billy’ Abbott, 57 of Waterloo, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Mercy One with his daughter Destiny, by his side. Born March 14, 1968, he was the son of Vern W. and Paula C. (Losee) Abbott.

He married April Abbott on December 6, 2016.

Billy attended church with his parents though he did not attend regularly. His mother had instilled a strong faith in him and loved him very much.

He leaves behind a legacy his, his daughter Destiny will cherish forever. The memories his eldest will cherish are their first fishing spot, learning to drive a car and navigating through life. No matter what, Billy was unconditionally loved. Destiny was holding him until his last breath. She stayed with her dad-his forever “North Star.”

He wasn’t perfect and was trying to mend the broken pieces of his life. Although he had just started to take the first steps just weeks before his unexpected passing.

Although the first step was all he could do. It started the mending of some of them. The most important was his oldest daughter Destiny “baby butthead” along with Hope the last two birthdays. Billy passed longing for a relationship with his “only” Chance.

Billy was a man of few words and silent more time than needed. Although there was one thing he made clear- he loved his children.

He loved clowns and fishing, and he took great pride in being a grandpa. His grandsons love for sports “wrestling” always had Billy asking to attend. He left this world leaving a hole in many hearts, including his children. He will forever be remembered as “crazy Uncle Billy” by his nieces and nephews.

Billy is survived by his wife April of Waterloo. His five children, Destiny (Jake) Gustafson of Waterloo; Kaylee Culbert of Waterloo, Chance and Hope Abbott of Cedar Rapids; His five grandchildren Kadyn Nagel of Waterloo, Stephanie King, Samantha King, Shayne King, Kayden Culbert, and Kori Walker. Three sisters Vernetta (Timm) Jensen of Dunkerton, Lynn Albert of Evansdale, Annie Tyler of Waterloo and five nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law: Larry Tyler and Ed Albert.

A Celebration of Life will be posted soon on Facebook.

Brothers, that’s what we became in a short period of time. First person I trusted after prison. I now know for a fact that there is something better beyond this world. Billy loved life and for him to not come back seals it for me. Whatever it is that he saw and stayed there must be awesome. I told him awhile back I’d keep an eye on his kids if or when needed. So all ya neices and nephews if yall need me for anything, I got u 😘. He’s in a better place with grandma watching over yall.
