Dennis Schwieso, 81, of Waterloo, died Thursday, December 18, 2025, at NewAldaya Lifescapes.
Dennis was born January 28, 1944, in Manilla, IA, son of Albert and Madonna (McMahon) Schwieso. He graduated from Manilla High School and earned his undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University, where he was a proud member of Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. He received a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.
Dennis married Linda Strachan on December 17, 1966, at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla, IA; together they raised two children and later enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida for 20 years.
Dennis was a dedicated math teacher for the Waterloo Community School District at Bunger Junior High School and retired from East High School. He was also an official for the Iowa High School Athletic Association for 35 years (basketball, football, baseball and softball). He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, IA. Above all, Dennis enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael “Mick” Schwieso; sister, Pamela Jurgensen; and niece, Justeen Schwieso.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda; his children, Lora Schwieso of Madison, WI, and Darin Schwieso of Des Moines, IA; his sister, Chris (Glen) Macumber of Manilla, IA; brother, Jeff (Karen) Schwieso of Alexandria, MN; brother-in-law, Gerald Jurgensen; sister-in-law, Carleen Schwieso; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
