Lawrence Edward Hill Sr., 75 of Waterloo, passed away Tuesday, November 25, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.
He was born July 12, 1950, in Carrollton, Alabama, son of Rufus Hill and Helen Steele. He married Evelyn Baskerville; they later divorced. To their union, 4 children were born. Lawrence proudly served in the United States Army, completing two tours in the Vietnam War. After his military service, he went on to work many years and later retired from Lear Corporation. He was known as a hardworking man whose strength and determination carried him through every chapter of his life. He loved spending time with his grands and great-grands, eating a charcuterie board box from Dee-Dee (Judeda), or picking on his niece Nisha, about the pissy doll with the diapers.
He leaves to cherish his memory: eight children, Sabrina Malone (Paul) and Bishop Brian Hill (Pastor Judeda), of Waterloo, Clarissa Hill-Bailey and Hosea Hill Sr., of Colorado, Delphina Hill (Dameetrees), of Waterloo, Tinisha Washpun, Lawrence Hill Jr. (Piper), and Jamaal Hill of Iowa City; three bonus children-Harmoni, Rodney, and Hevan Anderson of Iowa City; five brothers, Donald Hill of Waterloo, Morris Hill (Maxine) of Florida, Rufus Hill (Sarah), Terrance Hill and Darryl Redding Sr. (Shirley) all of Waterloo; two sisters- Ruby Moore and Velma Montgomery of Waterloo; two sisters-in-love- Julie Hill of New Hampton; and Norma Palimore of Des Moines; a God-brother, Justin Turner and a God-sister, Helen Redding (Terrance) 36 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Preceded in death by: His Mom and Pops, Helen Steele-Palimore-Hill-Robinson and Hosea Robinson. His Father and Bonus Mother, Rufus and Velma Wise-Hill. His maternal grandparents, Lester Steele and Hattie Mae Bady. His paternal grandparents, Morris and Sarah Ferguson-Hill. 4 brothers: Bobby Palimore, Herbert Hill, Curtis Redding, and Larry Redding; 3 sisters, Charalesa Wilder (Emanuel), Gloria Hence (Bishop) Peggy Joyce and Shayla Todd, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. His aunts and uncles Margie, Alexander, Emment, Herbert (Edna), and Hugh C.
Memorial Homegoing Services: 1:00 PM Saturday, December 13 at Gift of Life Church, 505 Franklin Street, Waterloo. Full Military Rites conducted by Waterloo American Legion Post #138, Waterloo VFW Post #1623, and the Iowa Army National Guard Funeral Honor Guard. Locke Funeral Services-Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., assisted the family.
Memorial Visitation: The Family will receive friends for one hour, from noon to 1:00 PM, prior to homegoing services at the church.
