Neva Petersen, 93 of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo. Neva was born on December 30, 1932 in Waterloo, the daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Lawless) Ackerman.

She Graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1951.

Neva married Harry Petersen Jr. on November 3, 1951 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death August 7, 1984.

Neva enjoyed baking, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed many trips to Oak Lawn Resort in Henning MN, where she loved to fish with her family and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

She is survived by her son, Brian (Karen) Petersen of Waterloo; two daughters, Shelley Petersen of Waterloo, and Cheryl Elliott of Henning’ MN; brother, Paul (Charlene) Ackerman of Waterloo; 6 grandchildren Carissa (Brady) Markuson, Zachary Reeves, Jamie (Sarah) Forsythe, Joshua (Jess) Petersen, Shane Petersen, and Brad Petersen; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Neva is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and 9 siblings, sisters, Virginia, Cathy, Marlene, and brothers, Don, Wayne, Laverne, Jerry, Jim and Rich.

Private family burial will be held at Lowell Cemetery in Clarksville.
