William L. “Bill” Acklin, 67, of Waterloo, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital, Waterloo. He was born on June 30, 1958, the son of Wilbur and Evelyn (Sorenson) Acklin.

He graduated from Southern Calhoun Community School District, Rockwell City. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in music at Buena Vista University, Storm Lake.

Bill married Marla Kay Rima, they later divorced. He worked as a Music Instructor at Charles City, Ackley, Clarksville and Theater director at Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge.

Bill loved jazz music, camping, playing trumpet, he was car enthusiast and played in many bands “The Tunes” and “Brass Transit”.

He is survived by daughter, Susan (Paul Beccio) Acklin of Virginia; son, Steven Acklin of Grimes; son, Anthony (Kirstin Koestler) Acklin of Norwalk; two grandsons, Charles Beccio, and Michael Beccio.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and grandfather, Sorenson.

    So sad to hear of Bill’s passing. He reawakened my fondness for jazz and improvisation with NovaJazz. He will be missed bby all of us.
